Grace O'Malley Kumar remembered in bike meet
Riders from across the country are meeting in memory of Grace
Bikers from across the country are coming together tomorrow to honour one of the Nottingham attacks victims.
Grace O'Malley Kumar from Woodford Green near Essex, was a first year medical student at the city's university and an avid Vespa rider.
She was killed on June 13th of 2023 while on her way home.
Now for the second year, a special Remembrance Event is taking place on Sunday 1st June at 11:00am, in Harlow.
Last year, the Ride of Remembrance travelled from North Weald Airfield in Essex to Newark Showground.
At the emotional event, a new Blood Bike for the Nottinghamshire team was unveiled, named "Grace", in her honour. They say:
"This bike has and will continue to serve communities across Nottinghamshire, carrying her name and legacy wherever it goes - delivering urgent medical supplies on behalf of the NHS, and continuing Grace’s commitment to helping others."
We're told that during COVID pandemic, Grace would ride to clinics and volunteer as a vaccinator.
Naomi McFadden from the Nottinghamshire Blood Bikes said that:
"Without hesitation we accept the invitation and are humbled to attend the upcoming Biker Meet in Harlow to remember Grace. Many of our members will be making the journey on their own time and at their own expense, not at the cost of the charity.
"The biker community stands proudly with her memory, recognising her as one of our own."
Around 10 of the blood bikes team are expected to be heading to Harlow today, ahead of the event tomorrow. They're also hoping to help raise money for the Grace O'Malley-Kumar Foundation. |newtab) Over £1000 has been raised so far.
It was Grace's friend and fellow student Barnaby Webber, as well as school caretaker Ian Coates that died that day.
Their killer Valdo Calocane is serving an indefinite hospital order.
