Greater Manchester Police says it has dealt with the actions of an officer who dragged a rough sleeper along the ground.

Footage, taken near Manchester Town Hall in September last year, shows a female officer picking up the end of a homeless person's sleeping bag before dragging it from under a sheltered area of St Peter's Square.

The video also appeared to show the officer putting her foot on the rough sleeper's stomach.

Homeless charity Crisis described the incident as "appalling and degrading".

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said:The force was first made aware of this concerning video in around September last year. The officer’s behaviour fell below the standard we expect, especially concerning respect for all members of the community, and the officer’s actions were dealt with.

“The Superintendent responsible for the City Centre personally discussed the incident with the officer and made it clear that her actions were unacceptable and must not be repeated. She, along with other employees, received refresher training on how to deal with similar situations in the future.”
