Darlington baby death - two arrested

Durham Police have arrested two people after the death of a baby boy in Darlington.

Emergency services were called out around 9am on Friday 12th Jan to an address on Frosterley Drive.

Despite being rushed to hospital, the 1 year old boy who was in a "critical condition" passed away.

Officers say a man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of murder and a woman in her 40s was arrested on suspicion of causing or allowing serious injury to a child.

A Durham Police spokesperson said:

"An investigation has been launched into the death of a child in Darlington on Friday.

"Police were called to an address near Haughton Road, Darlington, at around 9am on Friday, January 12.

"Paramedics also attended, and a 1-year-old child was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary. Sadly, the child passed away yesterday afternoon.

"A woman in her 40s was arrested on suspicion of causing or allowing serious injury to a child.

"A man in his 30s was also arrested on suspicion of causing or allowing serious injury to a child, and was further arrested for murder.

"Both have been released on conditional bail while further inquiries are made to establish the circumstances of the death."
