A 10-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with a fire at a block of flats in Warrington, which left 50 people trapped on Monday (02 June).

Emergency services were called to Marsh House Lane at around 17:30BST, where they found the building ablaze.

A huge rescue operation got underway, with firefighters lifting residents out of windows.

Thankfully, there were no reports of any serious injuries.

Police and fire crews have now begun a joint investigation into the cause of the fire.

Detective Inspector David Schofield from Cheshire Police said: “I’d like thank residents for their patience throughout the night while emergency services dealt with the incident.

“We’re working closely with our partners at Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service to establish the cause of the fire and would urge anyone with any information which may aid our investigation to get in touch.”

The boy has been released on bail.
