A vintage car - which has been described as being super rare - is going up for auction this evening.

We're told that potentially only two of the 1952 Daimler DE 36s were made, the other having been supplied to royalty.

Auctioneer Jonathan Humbert told us: "It's a genuine barn find and genuinely no reserve!

"It is a very splendid and typically British car with a super history.

"Delivered as the mayoral car for Birmingham City Council - and costing over £6000 back in 1951. That's equivalent to £225,000 in today's money.

"Possibly one of only two that was manufactured in this exact limousine format – the other was supplied to King George VI.

"The car belongs to an elderly couple who have had it some years.

"We discovered it in the barn on a routine call and we decided it was best to offer it without reserve as the car has not been started in a number of years.

"We've already got a good result, so we shall see where the bidding ends tonight!"

The car, which is in a timed online auction with Humbert & Ellis – ends at 6 pm tonight (16 June).
