Man charged with murder following death of woman in Abingdon

A 34-year-old man has been charged with murder following the death of a woman in Abingdon on Friday (May 30th).

Officers from Thames Valley Police were alerted to an incident taking place on Sherwood Avenue just after 6:25am.

When responders arrived at the scene, they found that a woman had been seriously injured, and emergency services were called to the area.

The South Central Ambulance Service arrive shortly after to try and save her life, but despite their best efforts, the 40-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman's family have been informed of her death and are now being supported by officers from the force.

While enquiries were ongoing, cordons were being put in place around Abbey Meadows while police carries out investigations.

Shortly after the incident was reported, officers arrested a man on suspicion of murder and brought him in for questioning.

Now, the force has confirmed that Robert Richens - from Luther Street in Oxford - has been charged with the woman's murder.

The suspect is now expected to appear before Oxford Magistrates' Court on Monday (June 2nd) to face his charges.
