Motherwell striker Louis Moult aims to find his goalscoring rythmn

Motherwell frontman Louis Moult admits he needs to rediscover his rhythm if he is to end his scoring drought.

The Fir Park striker made a sensational return from groin injury earlier this season, scoring five goals in the space of a game and a half.

Four of those strikes came in a remarkable display against Hamilton but since then, the goals have dried up and the 24-year-old Englishman has not netted in any of the four appearances he has made since.

That 4-2 Lanarkshire derby victory on September 17 was also his team's last success and Wednesday's shambolic 3-0 defeat to Inverness saw Well slump to second bottom of the Ladbrokes Premiership.

Boss Mark McGhee could do well with his 18-goal top scorer from last season finding his best form once more.

But Moult believes one strike could be all he needs to get going again and hopes it comes against Ross County when they welcome the Staggies south on Saturday.

He said: "I had a great start after coming back of the injury. I came on for the last half hour against Ross County in Dingwall and scored then managed to get the four against Hamilton, which was just unbelievable.

"But we've had a few tough games since then and it's been stop start with all the international breaks and free weekends.

"Hopefully I can try to get a little bit of rhythm going now.

"We played Wednesday and now we're right back into it on Saturday and we need to try and get something out of this next game.

"As a striker I think it's important to get a consistent run of goals. If you look at my record my goals seem to come in chunks. I may go a couple of games without scoring but the majority of the time they all seem to come one after another.

"But I never doubt myself. I'm confident and as a striker that's the way you need to be in front of goal. I'll back myself to score on Saturday because I always think I'm going to score.''

The table makes worrying reading but McGhee is refusing to panic just yet.

"It's only a couple of weeks ago since we could have gone second had we beaten Hearts," he said. "That's the nature of this league.

"So from that perspective, positions in the table and how many points you have at this point are all irrelevant.

"We have 23 games to get ourselves into the top six.

"We remain very positive. We've got a mixture of good experience, of some ability and good energetic young players but we'll be up against a team who will have seen what Inverness did the other night and will fancy their chances.

"However, we're determined to put it right and play better than we did on Wednesday."
