Morton striker Jai Quitongo lands Scotland Under-21 call-up

Morton striker Jai Quitongo has been called into the Scotland Under-21 squad.

The 19-year-old has been handed his first call-up weeks after his father, former Benfica, Hamilton and Hearts winger Jose Quitongo, warned that Portugal had made contact with a view to calling the former Aberdeen trainee up.

The powerful and pacey centre-forward, who was the subject of a failed bid by Doncaster in August, has scored six goals this season and impressed in the Betfred Cup semi-final defeat by Aberdeen.

Quitongo is joined in getting a first call-up by Hamilton forward Eamonn Brophy and Celtic goalkeeper Ross Doohan. Aberdeen's on-loan Arbroath goalkeeper, Robbie Mutch, has also been brought in for the November 9 friendly in Slovakia.

Coach Scot Gemmill told www.scottishfa.co.uk: "This match will offer the players another tough test as Slovakia have qualified for next summer's finals. I think it's important we continue to face strong opposition and challenge the players every time they come away with us.

"I've included a couple of new faces and hopefully they will see this as their opportunity to impress.

"I said last month that I will leave no stone unturned in finding the best young players for the Under-21 squad and this is a good chance for some new ones to come in and make their mark."
