A woman has been killed and four others are seriously injured following a collision near Carrbridge.

Emergency services rushed out to the scene of the crash on the A9, which involved a Volkswagen Multivan and a Toyota Hilux, at around 10:15pm last night.

A 65-year-old woman who was a passenger in the Volkswagen was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say a 33-year-old woman and a 39-year-old man who were also passengers in the Volkswagen were taken to Raigmore Hospital along with the 64-year-old man driving the people carrier.

Medical staff describe their condition as serious.

The 51-year-old man driving the Toyota is also in a serious condition at Raigmore.

The road was closed while crash investigations were carried out and fully reopened at around 5.50am this morning.

Police Scotland say enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and officers are appealing for information.

Road Policing Sergeant Calum MacAulay said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who died at this very difficult time.

“As our enquiries continue, I’d appeal to anyone with information to come forward. I’d be particularly keen to speak to anyone who saw what happened or has dashcam footage of the area around the time.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference 4113 of 12 June.
