A 42-year-old woman has died after being rescued from the River Moriston at Invermoriston earlier.

Emergency services including Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Scottish Ambulance Service, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency and the RNLI Loch Ness lifeboat were called to the river shortly after 1.20pm after reports that the woman had entered the water.

She was located and taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness by coastguard helicopter, where she died later in the afternoon.

Her next of kin has been informed.

Inspector Murdo Macleod said: "Our thoughts are with the woman's family and friends at this sad time.

"There are no suspicious circumstances but I would ask anyone who witnessed the incident and hasn't yet spoken to an officer calls 101, quoting incident 1726 of May 3."
