A 35-year-old woman is in a critical condition following a two-vehicle crash on the A9.

Emergency services raced out to the scene of the collision, which happened half a mile south of the Ralia junction at around 6pm last night.

A white Mercedes Sprinter van and a silver Kia Sportage were involved.

The woman, who was a passenger in the Kia, was flown to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary by air ambulance and remains in a critical condition.

The car driver, a 34-year-old man, was taken to Raigmore Hospital by road ambulance and is being treated for serious injuries.

A 26-year-old man driving the Mercedes was also taken to Raigmore Hospital, but has since been discharged.

The road was closed for around eight hours as crash investigations took place.

Enquiries ongoing

Sergeant Scott MacDonald has outlined how investigations into the crash are ongoing and urged anyone with information to come forward.

He said: “Enquiries remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the crash and I’m appealing for witnesses to come forward.

“Did you see what happened or see either vehicle before the crash? Do you have dash-cam footage of the area around the time which may have captured something of significance?

“We are also keen to speak with the driver of a BMW car who we believe has witnessed the collision.

“If you have any information which may help our investigation, please contact 101 quoting reference 2442 of 2 December.”
