WATCH: Trainspotting sequel release date revealed

And it's sooner than you may think

The much anticipated sequel to Danny Boyle's cult classic Trainspotting - now dubbed "T2" - is to be released in January of next year.

The original movie - based on a book of the same name by Irvine Welsh - told the story of a group of drug addicts struggling to get by in Edinburgh.

The original cast of Ewan McGregor, Robert Carlyle, Ewen Bremner and Jonny Lee Miller return for the sequel, reprising their roles as Renton, Begbie, Spud and Sick Boy respectively.

The release date was revealed in a teaser trailer, tweeted by production company Film4 this morning:
