A stranded dolphin rescued near Cromarty has been spotted in the Moray Firth, recovering from exposure to the sun.

Dr Andrew Brownlow is a vet who helped get 'Spirtle' back into the water in May.

The man who runs the Scottish Marine Animal Stranding Scheme told MFR News that there are hopes she could one day help re-populate the school of dolphins during breeding season.

He said: "It's absolutely brilliant news that she survived and that she seems to be behaving pretty normally.

"The bad news is that the sunburn has actually caused quite bad tissue trauma down one side, which is healing.

"Dolphin skin has amazing early, faster healing properties than, certainly humans.

"Although it looks really terrible at the moment, it's likely to heal a lot quicker than if it was another animal."
