Prince Charles arrives in the Highlands to meet soldiers near Inverness.

Prince Charles has met soldiers and their families near Inverness today before presenting them with medals.

Known as the Duke of Rothesay in Scotland, Charles is royal colonel of the Black Watch, 3rd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland (3 Scots).

The battalion is based at Fort George and commanded by 51 Infantry (Scottish) Brigade.

Having completed a six-month peacekeeping mission in Cyprus in 2015, they are now training to operate the Foxhound armoured vehicle for its new role as Light Mechanised Infantry.

Charles is visiting their base today where he arrived by Foxhound and was met by the Lord Lieutenant of Inverness-shire, Donald Cameron of Lochiel.

Over the past 10-years, the battalion has carried out two-operational tours in Iraq and two in Afghanistan.

Closer to home, 3 Scots assisted with both the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games and the London Olympics in 2012 as well as providing the Queen's Royal Guard at Balmoral in 2012.

Charles has been viewing displays and meeting soldiers and officers of all ranks with their families before medal award presentations take place.
