Moray's MSP says the area's ambulance service should get priority when 1,000 extra paramedics are recruited.

The Scotland-wide drive over the next five-years is in response to the rising demands put on the emergency service.

In March, paramedics took almost half-an-hour to reach the fatal collision of 16-year-old Elgin schoolboy Keiran McKandie.

An intitial review into the incident found that Moray's Scottish Ambulance Service crews were all tied up dealing with other emergencies at the time.

The chief executive of the Scottish Ambulance Service, Pauline Howie, has met with the McKandie family and expressed her "sympathies"...

The service has recently come under fire from Moray MSP Richard Lochhead over its response times to call-outs, and the ambulance chief has since announced that she's appointing five new ambulance technicians this year whose jobs it will be to respond to emergencies.
