Staff at the Maggie's centre in Inverness say they are overwhelmed by the community response to a recent break-in.

The cancer support charity is thanking locals for their concern after a thief smashed his way into the building at Raigmore Hospital.

The man had attempted to steal a safe from the facility at the weekend, but was disturbed by a pair of security guards.

He made off from the scene empty handed on a mountain bike.

Police are continuing to appeal for information to trace him.

The centre had to close to allow for a clear up, but it's now fully reopened.

MFR Reporter Derek Ferguson speaks with centre head Carole Bridge...

Centre head Carole Bridge said: "There is some damage, but it was dealt with very quickly.

"NHS Highland staff came in and helped up board up the broken window.

"When you come in the building now, you wouldn't know there had been such an incident.

"The telephone calls we've taken, the people who have popped in to check everything is ok, it's been overwhelming to know there's that level of concern and support.

"The depth of feeling has really came out and we really appreciate all those warm thoughts.

"The message is we're open for business as usual: it's still the lovely Maggie's centre that's homely and welcoming."
