It's emerged kids had been playing with an unexploded World War 2 bomb on a beach in the Black Isle before the alarm was raised.

A Royal Navy bomb disposal team were called to Rosemarkie on Wednesday morning, after the discovery of the device there.

They sealed off the area for much of the day while the coastline was made safe again.

The team was lead by Lieutenant Commander Tony Hampshire, who told MFR News: "A group of children were actually playing with the item, before a family spotted them and told them to leave it where it was and reported the incident to the coastguard.

"Items that are found on a beach are not always treasure"LIEUTENANT COMMANDER TONY HAMPSHIRE

"Items that are found on a beach are not always treasure. Sometimes they need to be treated with respect.

"As a father myself, it reminds you that we've all got a responsibility to try and educate our children.

"The family who came across the children did the right thing, and no harm was done to anybody."
