WATCH: Darcy's ruff-time at reservoir earns pet survivor award
A cockerspaniel survived a leap of faith into a Highland reservoir to take home this year's Pet Survivor of the Year award.
In July, Darcy was holidaying with her owners Gordon and Wendy Lyon and their five other dogs when she jumped over a five-foot wall into the Glascarnoch Dam.
They describe hearing a wallop and a squeal before seeing Darcy at the bottom of the reservoir.
The owners struggled to get to her, and eventually had to call in the fire service from Ullapool to get to the animal.
They rushed the injured pup to the nearby vets where it was discovered she had ruptured her spleen and needed life saving surgery immediately.
The lucky pet survived despite a ruptured spleen, damaged liver, air leaking into her chest, fractured pelvis, a fractured and dislocated front leg and a complex open fracture to her back leg and hip joint.
She has had four major operations, three on her legs, as well as physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, acupuncture and massage to treat her back to health, although it is expected to be 18 months before she is back to her peak.
Gordon and Wendy have had messages from every continent around the world full of support and words of comfort for Darcy.
They received a PDSA Pet Survivor of the Year plaque, and a new dog bed.
The usual prize is pet insurance but Darcy couldn't receive that due to her injuries.
