Owen Coyle has quit as manager of Premiership bottom club Ross County - after just five months in the job.

News of the Staggies' boss quitting the Dingwall side broke around 6pm this evening, and in a statement the club said that both Coyle and his Assistant Manager Sandy Stewart 'have left the club with immediate effect.'

In a statement Coyle's quoted as saying his resignation "was in everyone’s best interests."

And he goes on to say that after a chat with chairman Roy MacGregor on MONDAY, the announcement at 6pm on Thursday is "for the good of Ross County" and citing a "challenging situation" with family being in England.
