Drugs advice is being given to Belladrum revellers ahead of the 13th festival which starts tomorrow.

Public safety officials are all warning of a “zero tolerance” approach to illegal substances on the site near Beauly.

Around 18,000 people are expected to flock to the grounds which MFR News understands will be patrolled by undercover police officers on the hunt for people with drugs on them.

Chief Inspector Brian Mackay said: “We want everyone to enjoy the festival and to do so safely and responsibly.

“Don't take unnecessary risks and please remember there is no safe way to take drugs, avoid the risk by not taking any.

“We will actively seek out those who look to take drugs into Belladrum, and we will have dedicated officers assisted by specialist dogs throughout the event.

“We support the organisers zero tolerance to drugs at Belladrum and that anyone found with drugs will be dealt with by police and thereafter ejected from the event by the organisers.”

Debbie Stewart, Coordinator for Highland Alcohol & Drugs Partnership added: “Don’t take unnecessary risks. Our advice is to avoid taking drugs.

“Substances like ecstasy and cocaine can cause dehydration and overheating, especially when mixed with alcohol and taken whilst dancing in warm temperatures.

“It’s important to remember that new psychoactive substances are now illegal and contain research chemicals that haven’t been properly tested.

“If someone is unable to avoid taking drugs or drink sensibly, then make sure you know what you are taking, be aware of the amount you are taking, and be aware of the risk of becoming ill or overdosing particularly from taking drugs and alcohol together.

“Keep an eye on your friends. If you do notice someone becoming ill, get help straight away.

“A helpful tip is to keep the packet in your pocket as it may assist medical staff to treat anyone who becomes unwell after taking a particular substance.”
