Two young men driver have been charged by police and reported to the Procurator Fiscal after being caught driving at 106mph and 96mph in a 60mph zone on the A952 Toll of Birness to Fraserburgh Road.

The two men, aged 21 and 19, who were stopped in separate incidents yesterday, were targeted as part of ongoing checks under Operation CEDaR (Challenge Educate Detect and Reduce), which was launched to encourage drivers to take more responsibility on the region's roads.

Road Policing Sergeant Rob Warnock said: "The A952 Toll of Birness to Fraserburgh Road has had a number of fatal and serious collisions over the last year. Driving at high speeds puts not only those responsible at danger but other people's lives at risk too.

"Police Scotland is committed to keeping people safe and we are determined to do everything we can to make our roads safer. We would encourage all motorists to think about their actions while on the road and drive in a responsible manner, as speeding can have devastating consequences.

"The safety of motorists and working to reduce the number of casualties on our roads is our number one priority and this is reflected in the ongoing work under the Operation CEDaR."
