Tulloch Bridge Coldest In UK
Amid the continuing arctic weather blast Tulloch Bridge has been named the coldest place in the UK.
Travellers were today warned to beware of ice as the spell of wintry weather continued.
The Met Office issued an ice warning for the whole UK as forecasters said conditions would stay cold over the weekend and in to next week.
"Thundersnow" storms battered large parts of northern Britain yesterday, with up to 9in (23cm) of snow falling in some parts, and temperatures plummeted again overnight.
The coldest reading recorded by weather company MeteoGroup was at Tulloch Bridge in Inverness-shire, where the mercury fell to minus 11 Celsius (12F).
Senior forecaster Tom Tobler said: "There were further snow showers in England and Scotland overnight, and it will be another cold night everywhere with temperatures falling to minus two or minus three Celsius, and they were commonly around zero.
"There will be a risk of ice in many places and people using the roads should exercise caution."
Over the weekend there will be strong winds bringing an Arctic blast from the north, he said.
"There will be further snow showers affecting mainly northern areas, and a widespread sharp frost on Sunday night, making conditions difficult in the Monday morning rush hour."
Manchester Airport was open today after it closed both of its runways for several hours yesterday, but passengers were warned of delays.
It said on its website: "We are fully open today, but as things get back to normal and aircraft get back to where they should be, passengers are advised to check with their airline for specific flight queries as some may be subject to delays."
