Dozens of seriously ill children from across Scotland have gone on the trip of a lifetime to Lapland.

When You Wish Upon A Star organised it to give the families the chance to spend quality time together and make special memories.

The charity has been making dreams come true for children for nearly 30 years.

Founder, Barbara White, says, "In 1989, I met a delightful little 4 year old girl Johanna who was very sick, but still managed a smile.

"Johanna told me she would love to go to Florida to meet all her favourite characters, so I started fundraising for the family to have a trip of a lifetime, but sadly during this time Johanna's health deteriorated and her wish could not be granted as this brave little girl passed away.

"Meeting Johanna and her lovely family was inspirational and seeing all the heartache they went through, inspired me to start When You Wish Upon a Star in September 1990, so more sick children could have their magical wish granted."

Claire Hamilton from Kilmarnock was there with her family after her seven year-old son Oscar's battle with leukemia. She said, "It means the absolute world. When you get a cancer diagnosis you just think your world is ended straight away. But to come through that journey and finish it with a huge trip like this, it's honestly out of this world."

Lorna from the Highlands says, "We couldn't have done it without the charity. They've brought paramedics and consultants and just taken all the worry out of it for families.

"These memories are just invaluable. You go through so much, living in hospital, ambulances back and forth. So to have time of that and do what families do is just amazing."
