Trawler Sinks after Fire

Published 5th Oct 2015

A fishing boat has sank off the coast at Fraserburgh after a fire on board.

A mayday was broadcast by the crew of the Karinya yesterday lunchtime. The Coastguard sent the rescue helicopter from Inverness and requested the launch of the Fraserburgh RNLI all weather lifeboat. A nearby fishing vessel called Pleiades also responded to the emergency broadcast and recovered the five crew who had abandoned their vessel and taken to a life raft.

None of them have been injured.

Just after 9pm last night, the Karinya sank.

The local lifeboat was on the scene, and has reported no significant pollution in the area.
