Relatives of those killed in a North Sea helicopter crash seven years ago are among thousands calling for Super Pumas to be taken out of service for good.

41 year old Iain Stuart from Laurencekirk was one of thirteen people who died when a Super Puma 225 came down off the coast of Norway on Friday.

All similar aircraft have been grounded by the Civil Aviation Authority while an investigation takes place.

But an online petition, demanding they stop flying permanently, has so far gathered more than 19,000 signatures.

Audrey Wood from Newmachar’s written “I lost my son in the 2009 incident. 7 years on and my life has stood still. Wouldn't wish this heartache on my worst enemy. All variants of Puma should be removed from the oil industry, men should feel safe travelling to work not fear if they will ever see their loved owns at home again! Get rid!”

And Karen Ritchie says “my nephew was killed in an almost identical incident 7 years ago involving a Super Puma, people should feel safe when they are travelling to their place of work and obviously this is not a safe mode of transport!! Thinking of all family members involved.”
