A search operation was launched last night after two teens were left stranded on a cliff by the village of Balintore.

The Coastguard helicopter was launched just after 9pm, along with teams from Aberdeen Coastguard and Invergordon RNLI, after the pair were cut off by the tide.

Emergency teams urged the teens to use the torch on their mobile phones to aid the crews trying to locate them.

Almost two hours later the friends were winched to safety by the rescue helicopter.

It’s understood they had been trying to locate ‘The Well of Good Health’ locally known as ‘The Wellie”.

Invergordon Lifeboat spokesperson Michael MacDonald stated “In the light of this evening’s call-out, it was a swift and well executed rescue by illuminating their location by using mobile phone lights to attract rescue crew.”
