A man's been jailed for 4 years for the culpable homicide of a Buckie man.

Reece Munro was involved in assaulting James Robson in his own home in 2012.

An earlier trial at the High Court in Edinburgh heard how Mr Robson died 11 months later in hospital.

Co-accused Garry Munro was earlier sentenced to life for murder.

19 year old Reece Peter Munro (known as Kray), from Buckie, had previously been convicted of culpable homicide on 5 February 2015 at Edinburgh High Court.

His co-accused, Garry Alexander Munro, also from Buckie, was convicted of murder on 5 February and sentenced on the same day to life imprisonment with a minimum “punishment part” of 16 years.

On 10 July 2012, the accused both entered Mr Robson’s flat on Blantyre Terrace, Buckie and subjected him to a violent and devastating assault.

Mr Robson remained in hospital and both accused were prosecuted and convicted of attempted murder.

Mr Robson remained in a vegetative state from the time of the assault until his death on 15 June 2013 at Seafield Hospital, Buckie, more than eleven months after the attack and after both accused had been convicted of attempted murder.

Fresh proceedings were then raised against them charging them in connection with his death.

Speaking after the sentencing Andy Shanks, Procurator Fiscal High Court for the North of Scotland said:

“The accused carried out an unprovoked and violent attack on their neighbour in his own home.

“His death eleven months later was proven to be directly linked to that attack, and I am pleased that justice has now been served and the accused face life behind bars.”
