St Johnstone will stay in the top-flight of Scottish football after beating Caley Thistle 4-0 in the Premiership play-off.

Around 2000 Caley Jag fans travelled to Perth feeling optimistic after their 2-2 draw with Saints on Friday.

Despite an even first half, St Johnstone prevailed with an impressive second half performance to win the play-off 6-2 overall.

Inverness were the better side in the opening 45 minutes, with Austin Samuels creating the better chances for the Highland side.

But St Johnstone came out fighting in the second half with substitute Stevie May taking less than a minute after the re-start to put Saints back in front.

After Melker Hallberg forced Mark Ridgers into a save, May was on hand to tap in from close range.

Less than 10 minutes later St Johnstone doubled their lead.

A long range shot from Cammy MacPherson took a deflection off Sean Welsh to beat Ridgers in goal.

Inverness started to show promise again, with striker Samuels forcing Zander Clark into a low save before substitute Aaron Doran fired a shot just wide of the post.

A couple of minutes before the end St Johnstone put the tie to bed with Callum Hendry chipping the ball over Ridgers before former ICT defender Shaun Rooney did the same to give Saints a 4-0 victory.

The win means St Johnstone will be in the top flight for a 14th consecutive season.
