An investigation is being launched into a Scottish MP by the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards.

The probe into the SNP's Phil Boswell, who represents Coatbridge, Chryston and Bellshill, relates to allegations he contravened parliamentary rules by failing to register his financial interests.

A complaint was reportedly made alleging that Mr Boswell had failed to properly record his directorship of Boswell and Johnston Ltd.

Commissioner Kathryn Hudson can refer the case to Parliament's Committee on Standards if she finds there has been a serious breach and MPs would then decide what sanctions he faced.

The claims pose potential fresh embarrassment for the SNP, which has already seen two MPs resign the party whip since the general election.

Natalie McGarry denied any wrongdoing after police investigations were launched into missing donations from the pro-independence group she founded.

Michelle Thomson has also faced police inquiries into her property business.
