Thefts totaling a five figure sum have hit several Speyside whisky businesses.

A £2000 bottle was taken during one of the thefts which took place between Tuesday and Wednesday.

The 40-year-old Glenfarclas was taken from The Whisky Shop Dufftown, with owner Mike Lord devastated about the impact it will have on his business.

He said: 'It was a bottle that was done exclusively for our shop. It's now a collector's item worth £2000.

'Its quite upsetting. The fact they deceived a member of staff, distracted them so they could take this bottle away.

'Obviously that member of staff feels personally responsible, even though they shouldn't.

Mike went on to explain how the bottle was going to fund a renovation work for his shop.

He added: 'We took that bottle of whisky out and put it out on our shelf for the specific reason to sell it and do some repairs to our shop.

'We're not going to be able to go forward with that now.'

Police Scotland confirmed they are looking into the incident.

A spokesperson said: 'We are investigating following the report of a number of whisky thefts from businesses in the Speyside area on Tuesday 28 and Wednesday 29 January, 2020.

'Enquiries are ongoing and we are following a positive line of enquiry'
