Seal pup rescued from Fraserburgh beach

The Scottish SPCA is urging members of the public to contact its animal helpline if they see a distressed seal pup lying on the shore this winter.

It's after a one - believed to be around 3 weeks old - was discovered on a beach in Fraserburgh.

Colin Seddon, manager of the charity's National Wildlife Rescue Centre, said, "Anyone concerned about a seal pup should give us a call before approaching them.

"This includes seals who appear injured, are found on public beaches or are spotted in unusual places such as non-breeding areas.

"Unfortunately we are often contacted about seal pups who are healthy but have been abandoned by their mothers because someone has disturbed them.

"Rogue, a three week old female who still has her white fur coat, is our first grey seal pup of the season and is one of four currently in our care.

"She is being tube-fed fish soup at the moment and that will continue for the next few weeks until she’s old and strong enough to feed herself.

“Last pupping season we took in 95 grey seals who needed our help and we expect to rescue many more in the coming weeks and months.

"Anyone concerned about a seal or any other wild animal should contact our Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999."
