Scottish lower-league clubs have committed to daily Covid-19 testing as part of efforts to keep the game going during the latest wave of the pandemic.

Top-flight clubs agreed the new regime towards the end of last week after clubs such as St Mirren and Dundee United experienced outbreaks.

A statement from the Scottish football authorities' Joint Response Group said: "Following a videoconference with representatives from cinch Championship, League 1 and League 2 clubs, the enhanced protocols announced for the cinch Premiership last Friday by the Joint Response Group will now be extended throughout the Scottish Professional Football League."

The new testing regime comes into effect on Tuesday and lasts until January 3.

The statement added: "Further meetings are scheduled with the Scottish Women's Premier League and Scottish Highland and Lowland Football Leagues on Wednesday, and a further announcement will be made thereafter."
