A Scottish hiker was rescued from a trail in Tenerife after getting into difficulty near a search party for missing English teenager, Jay Slater.

Officers in the Buenavista del Norte area, and the local mountain rescue team found the 51-year-old in the Asomada Canyon region of the Los Carrizales area on the island on Friday.

People living nearby said they saw the unnamed hiker enter a difficult part of the trail to access the Rural de Tene national park and phoned police when they did not return hours later.

Police were already in the area searching for missing 19-year-old, Jay Slater, and were able to quickly locate and rescue the "tired and disorientated" climber.

Jay Slater was last heard from on Monday, June 17 after going to a music festival with two friends on the island.

The Lancashire teen missed a bus back to his accommodation and decided to walk back - a trek that would have taken 11 hours on foot.
