Some ScotRail season ticket holders are going to be getting a slice of £1 million being given away by the train firm as paypack for previous disruption.

The money will be shared out among all users of its Smartcard tickets next month.

It's the final part of the £3 million discount package announced at the end of 2016 to thank passengers for their patience.

All customers with a live ScotRail Smartcard season ticket on 21 March 2018 will be entitled to claim an equal share of a £1million reward fund.

Scotrail says that its Smartcard allows ticketless travel, meaning customers don’t have to buy paper tickets or wait in ticket queues when travelling.

ScotRail Chief Operating Offer Angus Thom said: “Our £1million fund is a smart way to say thank you to our loyal customers.

“We want as many people as possible to sign up to our Smartcard, so that they can be eligible for this fund and enjoy the benefits of ticketless travel.

“We’re building the best railway Scotland has ever had, and rewarding our loyal customers is an important part of that.”
