CRAIG GORDON: Stood up well to a powerful near-post strike from Roman Bezjak but otherwise had no saves to make. 6

KIERAN TIERNEY: The Celtic left-back did not look out of place at right-back. Defended well and became increasingly adventurous in the second half. 7

RUSSELL MARTIN: The recalled defender twice threatened from early corners with his headed goal being disallowed for a push. Gave nothing away at the back. 7

CHARLIE MULGREW: A strong presence in central defence and generally assured on the ball. 7

ANDY ROBERTSON: Put in an early slide tackle in the box to halt a dangerous Slovenia break and was effective at the other end, with his cross setting up a great chance for Leigh Griffiths. 8

SCOTT BROWN: Given the armband after Darren Fletcher was dropped, the Celtic midfielder showed why in the first half as he controlled the centre of midfield, but his passing grew slightly wayward in the second half. 7

JAMES MORRISON: Took a while to get going but was busy after the break. 7

STUART ARMSTRONG: Carried his club form into his first international scene with a couple of bursting first-half runs, notably setting up Leigh Griffiths to hit the post. Quieter after the break until his positive run and clever pass set up the winner. 8

ROBERT SNODGRASS: Was involved in some decent moves but not at his best. Set-piece delivery was hit and miss. 6

JAMES FORREST: Put in on or two good crosses but could not impose himself often enough. 6

LEIGH GRIFFITHS: Won his 12th cap and has never had a better chance to break his international duck but volleyed against the crossbar from four yards. Hit the inside of a post with a good strike a minute later and his rotten luck continued when he had to go off after getting goalkeeper Jan Oblak's knee in his back. 6

SUBSTITUTES

STEVEN NAISMITH (for Griffiths, 49): Put himself about well up front, winning headers, regaining possession and laying it off well, but his only shot on goal was a mis-hit. 6

IKECHI ANYA (for Snodgrass, 75): Fluffed a great chance seconds after coming on, side-footing weakly at Oblak from 16 yards. 5

CHRIS MARTIN (for Morrison, 82): A small section of fans booed Gordon Strachan's decision to bring the Fulham striker on but he proved them wrong by finding space in the box and then the net for the only goal. 6
