Russian missiles kill two people in NATO member Poland, US intelligence official says
We are waiting to hear what the NATO response will be
A senior US intelligence official says that Russian missiles have killed two people in Poland.
Firefighters there have confirmed the casualties in an explosion near the Ukrainian border - but say it's not clear what happened.
It's thought to be the first time Moscow's missiles have crossed into a Nato member country since the outbreak of war.
Fabrice Pothier, a former director of planning at the defence alliance, explains what this means:
"There is enough ground in principle for Poland as a NATIO member to trigger article four and ask the other NATO members to consult each other, assess the threat and take necessary actions".
Russia has denied statements from Polish officials and media outlets that missiles fell on the Polish village of Przewodo.
