Richie Foran salutes Inverness stars after seven- goal Betfred Cup win
Richie Foran hailed the ruthless attitude of his Inverness players as they beat League Two side Arbroath 7-0 in the Betfred Cup.
Just four days after they scored five at Dunfermline, Inverness continued their goal rush and Foran credited his side for continuing to push on even when the game was won.
The hosts were 4-0 up at half-time against the Lichties, with a double from Scott Boden plus Billy King and Carl Tremarco getting on the scoresheet. Iain Vigurs added a fifth after the break, with further strikes from Boden, to complete his hat-trick, and Tremarco completing the rout.
Foran, who will see his side top Group C bar a remarkable result for Dundee United on Sunday, praised his side for having a ''spot-on'' attitude.
Foran said: ''We spoke at half-time. Real men go and punish teams and they don't let up. We didn't let up in the second half which was pleasing. Some of these games peter out and you only get the odd goal, but we kept pushing. We got goals from all over the park - Carl got two and it shows it's not just coming from the strikers. I said at the start I wanted at least three players in the box for crosses and we're getting that for every cross. It's all down to those players and their attitudes were spot-on.''
Arbroath manager Dick Campbell bemoaned the new Scottish League Cup format for disadvantaging lower-league clubs.
He said: ''That's seven full-time teams we've played and I can't believe that the week before the season begins I'm needing to give my players a rest,''
There are one or two positives in it, in that you're doing away with the six subs on and six off type scenario.
''But to bring the season forward and go straight into active games, it takes a toll.''
