Richie Foran "devastated" as Alloa knock Inverness out of League Cup
Alloa boss Jack Ross told his players they had written their names in club folklore after dumping out Premiership Inverness to reach the Betfred Cup quarter-finals.
Alloa boss Jack Ross told his players they had written their names in club folklore after dumping out Premiership Inverness to reach the Betfred Cup quarter-finals.
Jason Marr's first-half goal proved to be the difference on the night as the Wasps progressed to the last eight of the League Cup for the first time in 51 years.
Ross, whose side knocked out holders Ross County in the group stages, believes his players will be able to look back on this success with pride when their careers are over.
"It's a terrific achievement from a League One club that is part-time," he said.
"People think footballers get caught up about how much they earn and different things, but when you stop playing it's about the things that you achieve.
"It doesn't always need to be medals, it's about putting yourself in the history books at certain clubs, and that's what we've done tonight."
Ross says he does not care who his giant-killers face in the last eight, with his only wish being for another home tie.
"It looks like there could be a few other upsets as well and genuinely before this round I didn't look too close at it," he said.
"But I don't care. Whoever we get in the draw it will be difficult but my preference would be a home tie."
Inverness boss Richie Foran described the cup exit as "devastating" and felt the result was tough on his side.
He said: "I thought the better team lost the game. It was one punt into the box, we come charging out, we missed the ball and they score a goal from not even a half-chance, which is very disappointing.
"It's devastating to be knocked out of a cup but it was a better performance than Saturday's loss to Partick Thistle."
