Rangers players have 'lost a bit of hunger', says Connor Goldson
The Ibrox defender spoke after their 3-1 defeat to Hibernian in the Premier Sports Cup
Rangers defender Connor Goldson has admitted their players have 'lost a bit of hunger' following their Premier Sports Cup semi-final at the hands of Hibernian.
The Ibrox side lost 3-1 as new manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst watched on from the stands.
Martin Boyle bagged a Hampden hat-trick in the first-half with Rangers unable to find the appropriate response to get back into the game.
B team boss David McCallum was left in charge of the first team for the match following Steven Gerrard's exit.
But Connor Goldson says that isn't to blame for their cup exit.
He told Premier Sports: "I'm not going to sit here and not give Hibs credit as they beat us fair and square.
"But as Rangers Football Club, we have to be so much better.
"As a team we are not performing right now. Not one player can hold their head high. The staff have been excellent and we have let ourselves down.
"If people don't want to be in the right positions, we can't blame coaches. It's nowhere near good enough."
When asked if Steven Gerrard's exit had any bearing on the result, Goldson responded: "No, not at all.
"The staff have covered everything this week. We've let ourselves down and players didn't follow instructions.
"People are in the wrong positions, which we worked in yesterday (at training).
"You would hope players would want to impress the new manager.
"We need something to change. We need a spark.
"I don't want to say this, but we've lost a bit of hunger. We are champions and some think they don't need to work as hard. That's crept in all season."
