Precautionary closures hit Tain primaries
Two schools in Tain closed after illness with coronavirus concerns
Last updated 16th Mar 2020
Knockbreck and Craighill Primary Schools, both in Tain, are to be closed until further notice.
A pupil and a member of staff were taken ill over the weekend and the circumstances are being assessed by NHS Highland and the Council.
There is no evidence as yet that it is related to Coronavirus COVID-19, but precautions have been taken, based on a number of factors.
Usual school closure procedures have been followed.
Local councillor in Tain Alasdair Rhind believes, while the move may concern some parents, it's best to take a precautionary approach:
'We haven't been fully told why the two schools are being shut, but information was received by the Council, and the Chief Executive thought it was best to close the two schools concerned. It's too early to say how long that'll be for'
'We've really got to take the guidance given from national health bodies, along with central and Scottish Government. Although these decisions are very hard for people, containment of the virus is most important'
'I would very much like to see things continue as they are, but if the message becomes that schools need to shut, along with workplaces and offices, then we must heed that advice'
