A man who died in a car crash involving two young children has been named.

A man who died in a car crash involving two young children has been named.

George Dow, 28, died at the scene of the accident after his Vauxhall Corsa collided with a Honda CRV on the B9001 Inverurie to Rothienorman road, near Daviot, in Aberdeenshire at around 6.50pm on Saturday.

In a brief statement issued through Police Scotland, his family said: As a family, we are devastated at the sudden and tragic loss of George. We would very much appreciate if we could be left to grieve in peace.''

The female driver of the Honda is still being treated in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for serious injuries. A 30-year-old man, a boy aged nine and a girl aged seven also travelling in the Honda had been detained in hospital for observation but have since been released.

Police Scotland had described the crash as horrific'' and are continuing to appeal for witnesses in order to establish the cause.
