Police Investigate Assault And Robbery In Inverness

Police in Inverness are appealing for information following a reported assault and robbery in the Merkinch area of the city.

A man and a woman have been attacked and robbed in the Merkinch area of Inverness.

The victims were walking along Benula Road just before 5pm last night when they were approached by two men, believed to be in their twenties.

It's understood they assaulted the man, injuring his back, before turning on the woman. She is understood to have suffered facial injuries.

The suspects are also accused of taking a sum of cash and an iPad before leaving the scene.

Detective Inspector Mark Czerniakiewicz said: "We would like to reassure the community that as a result of this incident officers will be increasing patrols of the area. We do not believe this to be a random attack and are following a positive line of enquiry.

"Police Scotland takes a zero tolerance approach to violent crime and will continue working with partner agencies and local communities to ensure residents are kept safe and perpetrators of such crimes are swiftly brought to justice."
