OAP dies and another woman seriously injured after one car crash

A pensioner has died and another is seriously injured following a one vehicle crash in the Cairngorms.

Emergency services rushed to the scene of the incident on the A938 between Carrbridge and Dulnain Bridge yesterday evening.

A 74-year-old man, who has been named by police as Frank Spencer, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers say a 73-year-old woman is receiving treatment at Raigmore Hospital.

In a statement, Mr Spencer's family said: "Tragically, as a result of events on May 26, we sadly lost Frank Spencer, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.

"Julia was seriously injured but is receiving amazing care at Raigmore hospital."

It continued: "The whole family would like to thank the people who were first on scene, for their kindness and compassion.

"Our heartfelt gratitude also goes to the emergency services for their professionalism and empathy, which has helped immensely."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 5.40pm on Thursday, 26 May, police were called to a report of a one-car crash on the A938 near Carrbridge.

"Emergency services attended but the 74-year-old male driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

"A 73-year-old woman was taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness with serious injuries.

"The road was closed for around five hours while crash investigations were carried out."

Sergeant Ewan Calder, of the North Road Policing Unit, said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who has died and our inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

"I am asking anyone who may have been in the area at the time and saw what happened or who has dash-cam footage that could assist us with our investigation to get in touch."
