Niddrie in lockdown amid "fireworks-related youth disorder"

UPDATE: Police say that officers in Niddrie have successfully responded to the previously reported disorder incidents.
Residents in the Niddrie area of Edinburgh are being advised to stay in their homes tonight.
It's amid "numerous reports of fireworks-related youth disorder" according to Police.
It follows similar scenes in Dundee earlier this week.
Some caught up in the carnage have told us it was "absolutely terrifying."
Various posts on social media refer to the area as 'like a war zone' with motorists saying they have had their cars targeted with fire works as they drive by.
Video even appears to show groups targeting a stationary ambulance.
One resident tells us they were driving along Niddrie Mains Road when a group of more than 30 youths all dressed in black, some wearing balaclavas, launched fireworks into passing vehicles.
Later wheelie bins were positioned in the middle of the road, forcing cars to stop and then be pelted with the projectiles.
Edinburgh City Council Leader Cammy Day has branded the scenes "absolutely disgraceful and disgusting."
He's told our news team:
"The Police have got a robust response, and there will be an additional number of officers in the area over the next few days.
"I'm sure the people responsible for that will be brought through the justice system.
"I urge the community to help us make sure those responsible are brought through the justice system appropriately."
A post by Police Scotland said:
"Members of the public are currently being advised to avoid the Niddrie area of the city as a result of ongoing youth-related disorder linked to Bonfire Night.
"Local officers working as part of #OpCrackle are being supported by specialist #OpMoonbeam resources following reports of various incidents including antisocial use of fireworks, a break-in to a shop and road blockages.
"A police vehicle has also been struck with a bottle containing a flammable substance, however, no damage was sustained and no injuries were reported.
"A robust police presence will be in place to address the ongoing issues and keep the public safe.
"Residents within Niddrie are asked to remain indoors and not hinder the ongoing emergency service response."
