It's unknown when these contractors had the virus and where they were working at the time

Two contractors at RAF Lossiemouth with suspected Covid-19 have returned negative results from the official NHS test.

There were concerns those employed on the base had been travelling to-and-from the base, potentially carrying the virus.

The news was confirmed by UK Government Defence Minister Jeremy Quinn MP during a virtual meeting hosted by Moray MP Douglas Ross and also including local community representatives.

Speaking to MFR News, Mr Ross said; "More than 700 tests have been carried out now by Volker Fitzpatrick, that's over-and-above the social distancing measures, and that was in response to community concerns"

“What this has shown is that everything is being done to protect the workforce and the local community"

"The First Minister also said this has been an ultra-precautionary and I think the contractors have to be thanked for what they're doing"

"The two people in question were living in quarters on the camp and the RAF have tried their best to accommodate as many of those contractors as possible, but there are significant numbers and it's not been possible to house them all"

"It's good to see (the base) a hive of activity and these are specialised works and a proportion (of workers) have to come from the rest of the UK. It's good to see the contractors doing everything they can to keep these works going while ensuring the safety of the local population is of the highest priority"
