Moray serial sex attacker jailed

An Elgin man's been jailed for 11-years for raping and indecently assaulting girls in Moray.

Steven Thain (pictured above) carried out the attacks between 2002 and 2014.

At Edinburgh High Court the 26-year-old serial sex attacker had denied the eight-charges against him.

Detective Inspector John Swanney of the Police Scotland Public Protection Unit said: "I would like to thank the victims and witnesses involved in this case for speaking out against Steven Thain.

"Their cooperation, which required a great deal of courage, has resulted in Thain's case being brought before the courts and led to the sentence delivered today.

"I hope that his victims can now move on with their lives as best as they can in the knowledge and comfort that he has received a significant custodial sentence.

"The investigation of crimes of indecency is a priority for Police Scotland and I would encourage anyone who has or knows of anyone who has been the victim of sexual assault or rape to report it to us.

"With our partner agencies, we will provide support to victims and will work hard to ensure that offenders are brought before the courts and have to face the consequences of their actions, such as in today's case."
