The victim of an attack at a Highland music event says he's now more wary of all his surroundings following an unprovoked assault.

Adis Delic, from Elgin, has undergone jaw reconstruction following the incident on Friday night at the Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival.

It was the first time the 40-year-old attended a music festival and he's now worried how this will effect him mentally in the future.

Police say enquiries to establish who did this are ongoing.

"I can't eat any food"

The offshore engineer described how he currently cannot chew food.

Adis said: "This was my first ever festival, I never really thought it would be my kind of scene.

Adis before Friday's attack

"I sustained a broken jaw in three different places, in-between the two sides of my jaw, and I lost one of my back teeth.

"I’m now in a position where I can’t eat any food, I'm just eating through a straw or drinking liquids.

"I can’t say how important it is to try and come forward and identify this individual."

"If they are let off the hook, this is more than likely to re-occur.

"Now I'm thinking, is someone else going to lash out?"

Adis also descried how a recent trip into the centre of Elgin proved to be mentally challenging due to the attack.

He added: "Normally I would just walk through town not thinking anything of it.

He says wary someone else may "lash out" at him

"Now I’m thinking , is someone else going to lash out?

"Whether this is a long-term or short-term thing I’m don’t know, but I’m definitely more wary now walking around.

Despite the attack, he praised the first responders to the attack and feels no blame lies with festival organisers.

He said: "I would highly encourage people not to be put off by this isolated incident.

"They should still keep going and enjoying what they're doing.

"This could’ve happened anywhere, just because it’s happened at Belladrum it shouldn’t put people off going to Belladrum."

Police appeal

Police Scotland confirmed Adis received treatment at Raigmore hospital for his injuries and say enquiries are ongoing.

Detective Constable Ross Cooper, of Inverness CID, said: "This appears to have been an unprovoked attack and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

"The festival site was busy at the time and we are keen to speak to anyone who saw what happened or who has information that could help with our investigation.

"If you can assist then please contact us on 101, quoting reference CR/0034689/22, or make a call anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
