Moray's local authority has confirmed investigations are ongoing in Burghead after receiving "odour complaints."
This comes after the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) confirmed members of the public raised the issue with them earlier this year.
Moray Council say work to identify the source of the bad smell could continue for a few more weeks.
A spokesperson said: "Moray Council is working with agencies and businesses in the area to investigate the odour complaints received.
"We expect this work to identify the source to continue for a few more weeks.
"If the source is found an appropriate solution will be put in place by the responsible party."
Earlier this week, SEPA confirmed their investigations found no odour-related issues in the Burghead area, but encouraged the public to report concerns.
A SEPA spokesperson said: "We received a series of odour complaints from members of the public around Burghead in April this year.
"SEPA is responsible for dealing with offensive odours from sites with certain licences or permits, and our investigations at the time found no odour-related issues at any of these sites in the area.
"We continue to encourage members of the public to report potential pollution to us by calling 0800 80 70 60 or use our online reporting form at www.sepa.org.uk/report."
