The leader of Moray Council says they're considering almost any measure to avert financial crisis.

The local authority could go bust in 18 months time if it can't balance the books.

That's despite cutting £24million over the last decade.

Councillor Stewart Cree's telling MFR News the Chancellor's Autumn Statement on Wednesday could mean more bad news too.

He said: "We're already bracing ourselves. We know the state of our economy and we can only expect more of the same.

"Cosla has already assumed we'll be facing cuts of between 3% and 5% this year, and in the long term something much more significant.

"A 5% cut to local government can in fact mean a 55% cut to some services, so the budget statement will be important.

"We ran a public consultation and one of the suggestions which came in was for us to run a lottery. Sometimes things are so bad I think that's a good idea.

"We've thought of just about everything."
