A 25 year old man from Inverness-shire has been sentenced to four years and eight months imprisonment for causing the death of a passenger after losing control of his car.

Martin Cameron was sentenced at the High Court in Edinburgh after having pled guilty to causing the death of his passenger Shaun James Allan on 9 May 2018 on the B851 Culloden Moor to Errogie road at Farr, by Inverness.

The court heard that Cameron’s bright orange Ford Focus had been driving at speeds of up to 125mph on a road where the limit is 60mph.

At approximately seven o’clock he was seen driving at excessive speed on the B851, which has a 40mph speed limit.

Cameron lost control of the car and collided with two trees.

26 year-old Shaun Allan died of the injuries sustained in the crash a short time later.

Nicky Patrick, Procurator Fiscal for Homicide and Major Crime, said:

“Martin Cameron’s dangerous driving and excessive speed has forever damaged the lives of the family and friends of Shaun Allan.

“This should serve as a tragic reminder of the very serious consequences of dangerous driving and the deep harm that it can cause.”
